The U.S. Small Business Administration issued a one-page application form aimed at simplifying the process of applying for the forgiveness of Paycheck Protection Program loans, as well as newly revised and updated forms to conform to the requirements of the most recent stimulus legislation.
Congress approved the COVID-19 relief package in the month of March that provided $284 billion of funding for small-scale businesses who needed loans. The money was intended to offset the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic. It included a requirement for the SBA to issue simplified forms within 24 days of the bill being approved by the lawmaker to streamline the procedure of applying for forgiveness. It also included conditions meant to encourage more bank loans by community banks, specifically for minority-owned companies that were unable to obtain loans last year.
Ed Zollars, a partner with Thomas, Zollars & Lynch CPAs said that the Small Business Administration fulfilled the obligation to issue the one-page form for PPP loan forgiveness within 24 days from the date of the enactment of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 20,21. This was on the Current Federal Tax Developments blog of Kaplan Financial Education. “The agency also released new forms that were updated.”
