The U.S. Small Business Administration has released a 1-page form that makes it easier to apply for the cancellation of Paycheck Protection Program loans. The form also contains newly updated forms to comply with the most recent stimulus law. 

Congress approved the COVID-19 relief package last month that provided $284 billion of funding for small-scale businesses who needed loans. The funds were used to reduce the economic burden of the coronavirus pandemic. The package also mandated the SBA to issue streamlined forms within 24 hours after the legislation was adopted to make the process of applying for forgiveness, along with conditions that aim to increase the number of bank loans by community banks, specifically for minority-owned businesses who had trouble getting loans last year.

Ed Zollars, a partner with Thomas, Zollars & Lynch CPAs, stated that the Small Business Administration fulfilled the requirement to publish the PPP form, which is one page long, for loan forgiveness within 24 days from the date of enactment under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 20,21. This was published on the Current Federal Tax Developments blog of Kaplan Financial Education. “The agency also released new forms that were updated.”

First Draw PPP Conditions for loan forgiveness

Trump Wall Student Loan Forgiveness – First Draw PPP loans made to borrowers who are eligible can be granted total loan forgiveness during the 8- to 24-week covered period following loan disbursement:

Second Draw PPP Loan forgiveness terms

Second Draw PPP loans made to eligible borrowers qualify for complete loan forgiveness, if within the 8to 24-week time period after the loan’s disbursement

  • Pay and worker levels are maintained in the same manner as is required for the First Draw PPP loan
  • The loan funds can be used to pay payroll costs or other eligible expenses.
  • Minimum 60% of proceeds go to payroll costs

Once all of the loan funds have been utilized The borrower may apply to be forgiven. The borrower can apply for forgiveness at any point up to the loan’s maturity date. Borrowers who do not request forgiveness within 10 months of the end date of the loan will be able to receive payment from their PPP lender.
