The U.S. Small Business Administration released a one-page form aimed at simplifying the process of applying for forgiveness of Paycheck Protection Program loans, together with updated and revised forms that conform to the requirements of the latest stimulus legislation. 

Congress approved the COVID-19 relief package last month, which offered $284 billion in funding to small businesses in need of loans. The money was intended to mitigate the economic effects of the coronavirus outbreak. It also included a requirement that the SBA to issue streamlined forms within the first 24 hours of the legislation being adopted to make the procedure of applying for forgiveness. It also included conditions designed to facilitate more loans from community banks, specifically for minority-owned companies that struggled to get loans in the past.

Terms for forgiveness for the initial draw of PPP loans

R3 Group Student Loan Forgiveness – For eligible borrowers, First Draw PPP loans can be suitable for loan forgiveness. This happens if the loan disbursement occurs within an 8 to 24-week period.

  • The loan funds are used on payroll as well as other expenses eligible for reimbursement; and
  • At least 60% of the proceeds are used for the cost of payroll

Second Draw PPP Loan forgiveness terms

Second Draw PPP loans to eligible customers are qualified for loan forgiveness if the loan is paid within an 8– to 24 week time frame.

  • Employee and compensation levels are maintained in the same way as required for the First Draw PPP loan
  • The loan proceeds can be used to cover payroll costs or other eligible expenses.
  • At least 60% of profits go towards expenses for payroll

A borrower can apply for forgiveness only after all loan proceeds for which the borrower wants forgiveness have been utilized. Borrowers can apply for forgiveness any time up to the maturity date of the loan. If borrowers do not apply for forgiveness within 10 month of the expiration date of the loan are able to receive payment from their PPP lender.
