The U.S. Small Business Administration issued a one-page application form aimed at simplifying the application process to forgive Paycheck Protection Program loans, as well as newly revised and updated forms to conform to the requirements of the most recent stimulus legislation. 

Congress approved the COVID-19 relief plan last month that included $284 billion of financing to small businesses in need of loans. This money was used to reduce the economic burden of the coronavirus outbreak. It also included a requirement that the SBA to issue simplified forms within 24 days of the legislation being signed into law to simplify the procedure of applying for forgiveness, along with conditions designed to facilitate more loans from community banks, especially for minority-owned businesses that had trouble getting loans last year.

Forgiveness terms in the first draw of PPP loans

  • The same goes for the compensation and employees.
  • The loan proceeds can be used to pay expenses for payroll or other eligible expenses.
  • A minimum of 60% of the proceeds are used to pay for payroll expenses

Second Draw PPP Loan Forgiveness Conditions

Second Draw PPP loans for eligible customers are qualified for loan forgiveness if the loan is paid within an 8 24-week time frame.

  • Pay and worker levels are kept in the same way as required for the First Draw PPP loan
  • The loan proceeds are used on payroll expenses and other eligible expenses; and
  • A minimum of 60% of profits are used to pay for payroll expenses
  • When and how do I apply for loan forgiveness?

A borrower can apply for forgiveness only after all loan proceeds to which the borrower has applied for forgiveness have been used. Borrowers are able to apply for forgiveness any time up until the date of maturity of the loan. If borrowers do not apply for forgiveness within 10 years of the end of the period covered and the loan is not renewed, PPP loans are not deferred any longer, and borrowers will begin making loan payments to their PPP lender.
