The U.S. Small Business Administration has released a 1-page form that simplifies the application for the cancellation of Paycheck Protection Program loans. It also includes newly revised forms that are in line with the latest stimulus law. 

The COVID-19 relief plan that Congress approved last month renewed the PPP with $284 billion of funding for small businesses seeking forgiveness loans to help them deal with the financial fallout from the coronavirus pandemic. The package also mandated the SBA to issue simplified forms within the first 24 hours of the legislation being adopted to make the procedure of applying for forgiveness, along with conditions designed to facilitate more bank loans by community banks, particularly for minority-owned businesses that had trouble getting loans in the past.

First Draw PPP Conditions for loan forgiveness

Maryland Loan Forgiveness – For eligible borrowers First Draw PPP loans are eligible to forgive loans. This happens if the loan disbursement occurs within an 8 to 24 week period.

  • Employee and compensation levels are maintained
  • The proceeds of the loan can be used to cover the cost of payroll as well as other eligible expenses.
  • A minimum of 60% of the profits are spent on payroll costs

Second Draw PPP Loan Forgiveness Conditions

Second Draw PPP loans to eligible borrowers are eligible for loan repayment when the loan is repaid within an 8 24 week period.

  • The First Draw PPP loan requires that the employee and compensation levels be maintained in an exactly the same manner.
  • The proceeds of the loan can be used to pay for payroll costs or other eligible expenses.
  • At least 60% of proceeds go to payroll costs

Once all of the loan proceeds have been used The borrower may apply for forgiveness. Borrowers are able to apply for forgiveness any time up to the maturity date of the loan. If borrowers do not apply for forgiveness within 10 months of the end date of the loan are eligible to receive payment from their PPP lender.
