The U.S. Small Business Administration has released a single-page form aimed at simplifying the application process for the forgiveness of Paycheck Protection Program loans, together with updated and revised forms that conform to the requirements of the latest stimulus legislation. 

Congress approved the COVID-19 relief package in the month of March that included $284 billion of financing to small businesses that needed loans. The money was intended to mitigate the economic effects of the coronavirus pandemic. It also included a requirement that the SBA to issue streamlined forms within 24 days after the legislation was approved by the lawmaker to streamline the procedure of applying for forgiveness, along with conditions designed to facilitate more bank loans by community banks, specifically for minority-owned companies that were unable to obtain loans in the past.

First Draw PPP Terms of loan forgiveness

Fsaid Ed Gov Loan Forgiveness – First Draw PPP loans given to eligible borrowers qualify for full loan forgiveness if within the 8-to 24-week covered period following loan disbursement:

  • Pay and worker levels are ensured
  • The proceeds from the loan may be used to pay for the cost of payroll as well as other expenses that are eligible.
  • Minimum 60% of profits go towards expenses for payroll

Second Draw PPP Loan Forgiveness Terms

Second Draw PPP loans made to borrowers who are eligible can be granted full loan forgiveness if during the 8to 24-week time period after loan payment:

  • Pay and worker levels are kept in the same way in accordance with the First Draw PPP loan
  • The loan funds can be used to cover the cost of payroll as well as other eligible expenses.
  • A minimum of 60% of proceeds are used for the cost of payroll
  • How to request loan forgiveness and when to apply

When all of the loan funds have been utilized, a borrower can apply to be granted forgiveness. The borrower can request forgiveness any time up until the date of maturity of the loan. Borrowers who don’t request forgiveness within 10 months after the date they will be able to repay the loan will be able to receive loan payments from their PPP lender.
