The U.S. Small Business Administration has released a form of one page that makes it easier to apply for the cancellation of Paycheck Protection Program loans. The form also contains newly updated forms to comply with the latest stimulus legislation. 

The COVID-19 aid package Congress passed last month revived the PPP with $284 billion in funding for small businesses seeking forgivable loans to help them to deal with the effects of economic collapse of the coronavirus epidemic. It included a requirement for the SBA to issue simplified forms within 24 hours after the legislation was approved by the lawmaker to streamline the procedure of applying for forgiveness, along with conditions designed to facilitate more bank loans by community banks, especially for minority-owned businesses who struggled to get loans in the past.

Forgiveness terms in the first draw of PPP loans

Forgiveness Ppp Loan – For borrowers who are eligible, First Draw PPP loans can be suitable for loan forgiveness. This is if the loan disbursement occurs within an 8 to 24-week period.

  • The levels of compensation and employee pay are kept at a constant level.
  • The proceeds from the loan may be used to pay expenses for payroll or other expenses that are eligible.
  • At least 60% of funds go to the cost of payroll

Second Draw PPP Loan Forgiveness The terms

Second Draw PPP loans made to eligible borrowers qualify for complete loan forgiveness, if within the 8to 24 week covered period following the loan’s disbursement

  • Employee and compensation levels are kept in the same way in accordance with the First Draw PPP loan
  • The loan proceeds are spent on payroll expenses and other eligible expenses; and
  • A minimum of 60% of the profits go towards the cost of payroll
  • When and how do I apply for loan forgiveness

A borrower can apply for forgiveness only after all loan proceeds to which the borrower is requesting forgiveness have been used. Borrowers may apply for forgiveness at any time until the date of maturity. If borrowers do not apply for forgiveness within 10 month of the end date of the loan are eligible to receive payment from their PPP lender.
