The U.S. Small Business Administration has issued a one-page form which makes it simpler to request forgiveness of Paycheck Protection Program loans. The form is also updated with new forms to comply with the most recent stimulus law. 

Congress approved the COVID-19 relief plan last month that offered $284 billion in funding for small-scale businesses who needed loans. The funds were used to mitigate the economic effects of the coronavirus outbreak. It included a requirement for the SBA to issue streamlined forms within 24 hours of the legislation being adopted to make the procedure of applying for forgiveness. It also included conditions meant to encourage more loans from community banks, especially for minority-owned companies that struggled to get loans in the past.

Ed Zollars, a partner with Thomas, Zollars & Lynch CPAs and said that the Small Business Administration fulfilled the requirement to issue the one-page form for PPP loan forgiveness within 24 days from the date of enactment in the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 20,21. This was on the Current Federal Tax Developments blog of Kaplan Financial Education. “The agency also issued the updated forms.”

First Draw PPP Loan forgiveness terms

Federal Student Loan Forgiveness Non Profit – First Draw PPP loans granted to borrowers who meet the criteria are eligible for full loan forgiveness if within the 8-to 24-week covered period following the loan’s disbursement

  • Pay and worker levels are maintained
  • The loan proceeds are used on payroll and other expenses that are eligible and
  • At least 60% of the proceeds are spent on payroll costs

Second Draw PPP Terms of Loan Forgiveness

Second Draw PPP loans to eligible borrowers are eligible for loan forgiveness when the loan is repaid within an 8to 24-week time frame.

  • Pay and worker levels are maintained in the same manner in accordance with the First Draw PPP loan
  • The loan funds are used on payroll and other eligible expenses; and
  • At least 60% of the proceeds are spent on payroll costs
  • How to apply for loan forgiveness , and the time to apply

When all of the loan proceeds have been used the borrower is eligible to be forgiven. Borrowers can request forgiveness at any time until the loan’s maturity date. If the borrower does not apply for forgiveness within 10 years of the end of the covered period and the loan is not renewed, PPP loan payments can no longer deferred and borrowers must make loan payments to their PPP lender.
