The U.S. Small Business Administration issued a one-page application form that aims to simplify the application process to forgive Paycheck Protection Program loans, together with updated and revised forms to conform to the requirements of the latest stimulus legislation. 

The COVID-19 relief plan that Congress passed last month revived the PPP with $284 billion of funding for small businesses seeking forgiven loans to help cope with the economic fallout of the coronavirus epidemic. The legislation required that the SBA issue simplified forms within 24 hours of the legislation’s signing into law. This was done to simplify the process of applying for forgiveness. It also included conditions that encourage community banks to lend more particularly to minority-owned businesses that had difficulty getting loans in the past.

Ed Zollars, a partner with Thomas, Zollars & Lynch CPAs, wrote that the Small Business Administration fulfilled the obligation to issue the one-page PPP form loan forgiveness within 24 hours of the date of enactment under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 20,21. This was on the Current Federal Tax Developments blog of Kaplan Financial Education. “The agency also published updated forms.”

First Draw PPP Conditions for loan forgiveness

Car Loan Forgiveness – First Draw PPP loans made to borrowers who are eligible can be granted total loan forgiveness within the 8 to 24-week period after the loan’s disbursement

  • This is also true for pay and benefits for employees.
  • The proceeds of the loan can be used to pay for the cost of payroll as well as other expenses that are eligible.
  • A minimum of 60% of the profits are used to pay for payroll expenses

Second Draw PPP Loan Forgiveness Conditions

Second Draw PPP loans to qualified borrowers can be qualified for loan forgiveness if the loan is paid within an 8– to 24-week period.

  • Employee and compensation levels are kept in the same way in accordance with the First Draw PPP loan
  • The loan proceeds are spent on payroll and other eligible expenses; and
  • A minimum of 60% of the funds go to expenses for payroll
  • How do I request loan forgiveness and when to apply

When all of the loan’s proceeds have been used The borrower may apply to be forgiven. Borrowers can request forgiveness at any time until the date at which the loan matures. Borrowers who do not request forgiveness within 10 months of the end date of the loan will be able to receive loan payments from their PPP lender.
